Copenhagen Sunday
After breakfast this morning we head off for a canal boat ride. It is a bit cooler than yesterday with cloudy conditions and a temp of 21. The canal ride takes just over 60 mins and is very relaxing and interesting. We have confirmed a story our guide told us yesterday, of an incident in 1982 where a Danish warship accidentally fired a missile which destroyed a number of houses, fortunately not injuring anyone. It became known as the whoopsie incident. It was interesting to view parts of the city from the water. We had to duck a few times as the boat went through some very low bridges.
After the boat ride we walked around to see the little mermaid. It was pretty crowded and then we walked back to our hotel and had some lunch. After lunch we headed off to the Tivoli Gardens, the fun park that inspired Disneyland. On the way we stopped into the LEGO store to view some of their creations.
The Tivoli Gardens is very like Disneyland, and we have learnt that it is the second oldest amusement Park in the world and Walt Disney was inspired by the park which led him to building Disneyland. Walking through the park you can see the similarities.
It has been a long day but a very enjoyable one. We have a few beers and then hamburgers from the gasoline grill near our hotel. It is a petrol station and hamburger grill. Great hamburgers.
Tomorrow we board our ship and leave Copenhagen behind.

Copenhagen facts
We have learnt some interesting facts about Copenhagen. It is an expensive place to live. Taxes are high, lowest tax rate is 44 cents in the dollar. New cars have a 150% tax on them. No wonder most young people ride bikes. They do have universal free health care, free education and are paid a monthly allowance to attend university up to a Masters level. Maternity paid leave of 52 weeks and paternity paid leave of 15 weeks. Very generous but has to be paid for somehow.
Bikes are everywhere and you have to be on the lookout all the time. The bike paths look like a footpath. There is a narrow footpath, generally cobblestones, then a bitumen path for bikes and then the road. It is easy to forget and Ann, Luggy and I have nearly been hit. They are not very polite either, usually giving you a mouthful for being a stupid tourist. As our guide yesterday said Danes are very friendly people until they get on their bikes, then beware!

Stuff Up
Sorry about the previous post, having a lot of trouble including photos in the blog. When I eventually worked it out, some duplicated and I can’t find out how to delete the duplicates without deleting the blog and redoing it. Then in the edit stage the wording disappeared and all I could see was the photos. Hence this extra note. Apart from this blog having a great time, need a couple of beers now.
Walking tour
We all enjoyed a good nights sleep and are feeling very refreshed this morning. It is another lovely day in Copenhagen, expected top of 25 with some cloud. We have breakfast at the hotel, which is very busy. There is a bit of rubbish in the streets, we appear to be in an area where there is a lot of nightlife. Having said that, it was quiet in the hotel.
We head off to meet up with our walking tour. The map from the hotel is next to useless, not enough detail. A 20 min walk takes 40 min when we loose our way. We finally get there and are allocated our group. The guide is Jarod from Melbourne, and we are a group of about 26.
He is very entertaining and full of information. He is proud of the fact that Princess Mary was Australian. He had little digs for all the nationalities in our group and was very funny. We walk for 2.5 hours and finish not far from our hotel. It is 1.30 and we are feeling stuffed. Head off for lunch and a rest. Having a lot of trouble

Copenhagen
All arrived safely in Copenhagen and now at our hotel. It is 3.30 melb time and 7.30 Denmark. Hotel room is very cosy. We plan to freshen up have a couple of hours sleep and head out on the town.
We meet up at 1 pm and head off for a walk. It is quite warm around 27 degrees. We head down to the canal area where it is quite busy. It is a beautiful day. Need to be very careful when crossing the roads, bikes are zooming around everywhere. We head off to have a lunch and find a burger place with beers. After six burgers and 12 beers we continue walking for a while and then head back to hotel for a rest we are not used to the lovely warm weather.
We decided against dining out and go out buy some chips and nuts at the Aldi just around the block from us. Lugg goes and gets some beers from the 7-11. After a few beers and lots of laughs we all realise we are bit jet lagged and turn in at 9 pm.

Up Up and Away
We have finally started our long awaited trip. Self check in at the airport was challenging, but we all managed. Hopefully the bags turn up at Copenhagen. Currently sitting in Changi airport waiting for our boarding call for Copenhagen. Flight was a little bumpy for a while but eventually settled down. All feeling a little tired except Luggy who managed to drift off during the flight.
